Correns, Carl Erich
(19 sep. 1864, Munich, Alemania–14 feb. 1933, Berlín).

Botánico y genetista alemán. El mismo año que Erich Tschermak von Seysenegg y Hugo de Vries (1900), redescubrió, en forma independiente, el artículo en que Gregor Mendel esbozaba los principios de la herencia. Realizó investigaciones en guisantes de jardín, de las cuales obtuvo las mismas conclusiones que Mendel. Contribuyó a engrosar la evidencia abrumadora que respalda la tesis de Mendel, anticipándose a Thomas Hunt Morgan en el desarrollo del concepto de vinculación, al elaborar una teoría de acoplamiento físico de factores genéticos para explicar la consistencia con que ciertos rasgos se heredan juntos.
